Ghani Condemns Kabul Bombing That Killed 8 Civilians
Ghani Condemns Kabul Bombing That Killed 8 Civilians

President Ashraf Ghani on Wednesday condemned in the strongest possible terms the deadly attack by Daesh on a convoy of foreign troops in Kabul which claimed the lives of at least eight civilians.

In a press release issued by the Presidential Palace (ARG) on Wednesday, Ghani also condemned the fact that the attack was carried out in such a densely populated area as Macroyan in Kabul city - an attack that resulted in the deaths of innocent civilians.

According to the press release, Ghani said he "strongly condemned this barbaric attack. The terrorists by killing innocent civilians once again demonstrated their enmity towards the people of Afghanistan."

According to him, "terrorist have suffered major casualties on the battle fields in recent months - casualties inflicted on them by the Afghan security forces and by plotting such deadly attacks, the terrorists want to deny their setbacks."

Ghani called on the responsible government institutions to provide first class treatment to those wounded in the attack. The Ministry of Interior said earlier in the day that at least 25 people had been wounded.

Resolute Support also issued a statement early Wednesday and said three of its troops had been injured in the attack.

CEO Abdullah Abdullah also denounced Wednesday's suicide bombing and said that he was deeply saddened by the "terrorist attack" that killed innocent civilians.

"Deeply saddened by the terrorist attack killing innocent civilians in Kabul. I condemn the attack and stand in solidarity with the victims," Abdullah said in a tweet.

Daesh accepted responsibility for Wednesday's attack which comes just two months after the group managed to penetrate multiple layers of protection at the Sardar Daud Military Hospital in Kabul and killed over 50 people including doctors, patients and members of the Afghan security forces.

Meanwhile, former president Hamid Karzai also strongly denounced Wednesday's attack.

Karzai said that such attacks against Afghans were plotted by the enemies of peace and stability of Afghanistan, and said the attack was against human values and Islamic principles.

Afghan officials and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) has also condemned the attack.

NATO secretary general Jens Stoltenberg said in a statement: "I condemn the attack on the NATO convoy in Kabul. The fight against terrorism continues. My thoughts are with all those affected."

Pakistan's embassy in Kabul also issued a statement after the incident and said: "The Government of Pakistan strongly condemns the suicide attack in Kabul that led to the loss of precious lives. Pakistan conveys its deepest sympathies to the bereaved families who lost their loved ones and prays for the speedy recovery of the injured. Terrorism is a common challenge and, therefore, warrants a cooperative approach."

The Afghan government has constantly urged its international partners and the international community to hit terror sanctuaries outside of its borders so that the Afghans can live in peace and security.
